I’m an experienced cello teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages, children and adults. With young children, I sometimes use color-based notation – a quick and fun approach to music reading.

My overall teaching draws from the “Dounis method”, which is an approach to learning a string instrument that emphasizes a physically natural approach to the instrument, and consists of small, simple exercises for every aspect of playing. I also include creative exercises and applications of the latest in research on learning techniques.

My students have included:

A 6-year-old kid, eager to play her favorite songs on the cello.

A teenager, preparing for a school orchestral audition.

An adult classical-music enthusiast, hoping to join a musical group.

The cello has a wonderfully rich, soulful sound and large range. It’s a great vehicle for self-expression, and forms an important part of ensembles, while also being a highly versatile solo instrument.
