I’m an experienced cello teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages, children and adults. With young children, in addition to traditional note reading, I also teach using color-based notation – a quick and fun approach to music reading.

My teaching draws from the “Dounis method”, which is an approach to learning a string instrument that emphasizing a comfortable, physical approach to the instrument, and consists of small, simple exercises for every aspect of playing. I also include creative exercises and applications of the latest in research on learning techniques.

My students have included:

A 6-year-old kid, eager playing her favorite songs on the cello.

A teenager, preparing for a school orchestral audition.

An adult classical-music enthusiast, planning on joining a musical group.

The cello has a wonderfully rich, soulful sound and large range. It’s a great vehicle for self-expression, and it forms an important part of ensembles, while being highly versatile as a solo instrument.
